What Does The Magnificent Maya Angelou Think Of This Election?
Maya Angelou is a fantastic role model for any woman. She has lived an astonishing & very public life. She's a no-holds barred type of female. That's probably why she backed Hillary Clinton until she lost. It might be the reason she has written a new book that gives the maternal advice that some women have longed for.The book is called,"Letters To My Daughter." Her life should inspire those who have taken the time to read,"I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings." She spoke to so many issues in the latter book. Racism, sexism,& an unwanted preganancy have all occurred in her life.
Maya Angelou has led a remarkable life that all women can learn from. Here's an excerpt from CNN.com:
"She read her poem "On the Pulse of Morning" at President Clinton's first inauguration. She was only the second poet invited to read at the swearing in of a new president.
But her career has had many facets -- Angelou has been a singer, dancer, playwright, director and teacher.
"What I've encouraged voters to do is to vote for the person I am extolling, and also don't expect that if your man or woman gets in, that all things will be rectified immediately. It's taken us a long time to come to this place of weariness and almost hopelessness.
So because Obama gets in or McCain gets in, it's not going to be repaired overnight. The economy is not going to be repaired, the schools -- the disaster in our schools -- will not be repaired overnight. Nor will the social conversation be repaired overnight.
However, I would encourage every voter to say to his or her candidate, go in and do it, and you will not do it alone. I will help. You have to get up off that sofa or off that couch and give something to the country -- even if it's one hour every other week to an old people's home -- I will read, go into the children's ward and read, or give to your church or your synagogue or your mosque. ... Offer something to the country. So you don't just sit there."(END OF EXCERPT) Read the rest here:

Human Rights Issue In Colombia! The Military Has Been Accused Of Killing Civilians For Years!
Remember the drug war that we've been fighting for decades? This video talks about FARC & the history of the paramilitary in Colombia. It is further evidence that massacres are taking place against innocent civilians as part of the military's counterinsurgency plan .Apparently, the United States may have to take a second look at their involvement with Colombia.Navi Pillay, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights is investigating the amount of killings because they may be "crimes against humanity." The U.S. sponsors the Colombian military units & has given billions since George Bush took office.
Here's an excerpt from CNN:
"Since 2000, Colombia has received about $5 billion in mostly military aid from the United States to fight drugs and the guerrilla war.
Under the terms of the aid package, Washington is supposed to thoroughly vet the human rights record of Colombian military units. If abuses are uncovered, Washington can suspend aid to the offending units.
U.S. authorities have not publicly said whether aid will be affected by the latest investigations and subsequent purge of the military high command.
None of the commanders fired earlier this week has been arrested or charged with any crime. But Uribe has said criminal investigations are ongoing and promised that offenders would be jailed." (END OF EXCERPT) Read the rest here:
