I Am Infuriated That The Bart Police Killed This Young Unarmed Man In Oakland!

Oscar Grant was fatally shot by the Bart police in Oakland this past Sunday. He was only 22 years old. His daughter was the first thing on his mind as he lay dying from the gunshot wound in his back. The officer who drew his weapon should be criminally charged & Oscar Grant's family should receive every bit of the $25 million that they are asking for. The video clearly shows that the man was being subdued by several officers. They couldn't handle one man without shooting him? It just does not make any sense. And now I'm hearing that the officer may have accidently shot Oscar Grant with a real gun instead of a taser gun.Well, I think that this officer intentionally shot Oscar Grant. Here's the latest on this story from Fox News:

"Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Chief Gary Gee said on Sunday that the agency is "committed to completing an unbiased, thorough and detailed investigation" of the shooting death of Oscar Grant.

"This case is not even four days cold. We're in the early stages of the investigation and we will do a very thorough job," he said.

Several unanswered questions remained after BART officers went to Oakland's Fruitvale station to investigate reports of a supposed brawl on a train on which Grant was riding around 2 a.m. Thursday.

A friend of Grant's who was with him on the crowded Oakland train station platform at the time of the shooting said Grant pleaded with officers not to harm him.

"Oscar yelled, 'You shot me! I got a four-year-old daughter,"' said Fernando Anicete. "Oscar was telling us to calm down and we did. We weren't looking for any trouble."

Anicete was among more than 50 people attending a tearful news conference in Oakland on Sunday where Grant's family announced they planned to file a $25 million claim against the Bay Area Rapid Transit agency this week. A claim is the first step in the process of suing the agency.
The family's attorney John Burris said the shooting was intentional, and that he planned to ask Alameda County prosecutors to seek criminal charges against the officer. Burris said Grant, of Hayward, Calif., posed no threat to officers when a bullet entered his back and ricocheted to his lung area, killing him almost instantly."(END OF EXCERPT) Read the rest here:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,476644,00.html

And Speaking Of The Black Press, Check Out This Budding Young Black Journalist, Damon Weaver!

Oh,my goodness! This little kid is absolutely adorable & extremely intelligent.
Damon Weaver is a 10 yr-old budding black journalist on a serious quest to interview President Barack Obama. This is a prime example of what I was just talking about in my last post.Damon Weaver is one of the many black youths out there who got inspired by the fact that we have the first black president in history. This makes the whole political arena more interesting & attainable to young black boys & girls. No longer can we,as black people, disassociate ourselves with politics by claiming that the president won't do shit for the black community anyway. This is not a faux black president, like Bill Clinton. Barack Obama is truly the first black president. For the first time, black folks can see some of themselves in the first family. That's exciting!

Having The First Black President Has Prompted Essence Magazine To Have A Full-Time White House Reporter For The First Time!

Since Obama will be our first black president ever, it has prompted some leading black magazines to make some changes. Here's more on that from Politico:

"Barack Obama’s election as president is prompting major changes in the nation’s black press, ushering in a series of firsts that editors say will reshape print, Internet, radio and television coverage aimed at African-American audiences.

Essence, the top-selling magazine among black women, will have a full-time White House reporter for the first time. Ebony magazine will add a White House reporter, either full time or as needed. Its sister publication, Jet magazine, will have a weekly two-page Washington report in every issue."(END OF EXCERPT) Read the rest here:http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16894.html

That's really great that there will be more African-American reporters covering White House affairs. It will inevitably lead to more blacks becoming involved & concerned with politics.Because some of the issues that concern African-Americans the most may finally receive the national attention that they deserve.Black Press USA did a nice article on just what some of those problems are.It discussed the stories that they covered that dealt with HIV/AIDS,hate crimes, black incarceration, homicide rate in urban communities,etc...
