Nine Gay Senegalese Men Get 8 Years In Jail For "Indecent Conduct & Unnatural Acts"!

Being gay in Senegal has become a serious issue for nine men.They were sentenced to eight years for "indecent conduct & unnatural acts". This has outraged an international gay rights group as it should.Noone should be jailed for having sex if they are consenting adults.Here's more on this incident from BBC:

"Homosexual acts are illegal in Senegal but the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) told the BBC it was "shocked by the ruling".

The judge added three years to a five-year sentence, saying the men were also members of a criminal group.

Most of them belonged to an association set up to fight HIV and Aids.

"This is the first time that the Senegalese legal system has handed down such a harsh sentence against gays," said Issa Diop, one of the men's four defence lawyers.

Mr Diop said he would be appealing against the sentences.

The IGLHRC's Cary Alan Johnson said he was "deeply disturbed" by the case.

"There have been pretty consistent human rights violations… in Senegal," he told the BBC's Network Africa programme from Cape Town in South Africa.

Roland Burris may be narcissistic & his mausoleum may be a bit much for some. But,I love this fucking guy! He could care less what others think of him.Roland Burris is going to get the seat that Harry Reid has tried to deny him.He has made Harry Reid look stupid because he has had to backtrack from his previous hard stance on the situation. There is no legal grounds to deny Burris the Illinois Senate seat.

The race card may have been played here,but wasn't it already being played? Harry Reid did not want an African-American to be seated. His choices were two white women. The claim is that an African-American would have trouble being re-elected in two years.I think that this whole situation just makes it clearer to the average observer that race is still a huge issue in America.Most blacks don't pay attention to the fact that there are hardly any blacks in the Senate.We're just so elated to have a black president.Many blacks have always maintained that there really isn't a place for them in politics.Having a black president signals change,but we can't say that everything is peachy because of Obama's win.It's the 21st century & racial progress is still moving at a snail's pace.Unfortunately,Gov.Blagojevich knows that & he was able to deflect attention from his dilemna by picking a black replacement for Obama's Senate seat. Since the Democrats wanted him to resign,he stuck it to them good! The Illinois gov. knew that Harry Reid did not want another African-American to be seated for whatever reason.Smart politics,Gov. Blagojevich! And kudos to Roland Burris for snatching this opportunity for himself.

I believe people are angered by the fact that Johannes Mehserle,the 27-yr. old Bart cop that shot Oscar Grant in the back, quit his job so that he wouldn't have to speak with investigators! He has given no comment since he shot Oscar Grant,who was unarmed & laying facedown on the ground when he was killed.What the fuck is that about?! I know good & damn well that this cop is not going to get away with this!And where's the roundtable discussions on CNN,FOX,MSNBC,etc.. over this unjustified murder? I mean,the whole country was in an uproar when Michael Vick was involved in the death of dogs! Is it just in Oakland that folks are incensed by the brutal death of an unarmed 22-yr. old family man?
