The First Black Congresswoman,Shirley Chisholm, Was Born On November 30!

On Nov. 30, 1924,the first black congresswoman was born in Brooklyn,NY. Shirley Chisholm's parents descended from both Cuba & Barbados. She was given one of the finest educations at a British-like school when she went to live with her grandmother in Barbados at the age of three. Her educational background enabled her to speak & write with ease,she has said. That might have also helped her to become the first African-American candidate for President of the United States. Go ahead, girl! Here's more on this significant woman from Wikipedia:

"In 1972, she made a bid for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. The nomination was won by George McGovern in a hotly contested set of primary elections, with Chisholm campaigning in 12 states and winning 28 delegates during the primary process.[8] At the 1972 Democratic National Convention, as a symbolic gesture, McGovern opponent Hubert H. Humphrey released his black delegates to Chisholm[9], giving her a total of 152 first-ballot votes for the nomination.[2] Chisholm's base of support was ethnically diverse and included the National Organization for Women. A Religious Clash Between Christian & Muslim Nigerians Cause A Riot That Kills Over 300!

There is a terrible riot that broke out in Nigeria. The Nigerian Red Cross says that the clashes have been so bad that over 10,000 folks have left their homes.Watch the video for the full report. Here's more on the cause of the riot from BBC:

"The mostly Christian-backed governing party, the People's Democratic Party, was declared to have won the state elections in Plateau state, of which Jos is the capital city.

The result was contested by the opposition All Nigeria People's Party, which has support from Muslims.

Violence started on Thursday night as groups of angry youths burnt tyres on the roads over reports of election rigging.

Bodies from the Muslim Hausa community were brought into the central mosque compound.

The local imam, Sheikh Khalid Abubakar, said more than 300 dead bodies were brought there on Saturday alone.

Will Ugandan LRA Leader, Joseph Kony, Sign A Peace Deal That Will End A 20 Year Rebellion?

Will the leader of the Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army,Joseph Kony, actually sign the peace deal to end Uganda's 20-yr. rebellion or will he be a no-show? Because he feared for his safety, he neglected to appear at previous signing ceremonies. Joseph Kony is accused of being a war criminal & he must first sign this deal before he faces the International Criminal Court to deal with those accusations. Here's more from BBC:

Opec Isn't Happy With The Steady Decline In The Price Of Oil! Cartel Members Hold Meeting In Cairo To Discuss!

Opec has already tried to cut the output of barrels just last month,but that did nothing to stop the steady decline in the price of oil. Venezuela,an Opec member, wants to cut the amount of oil that is produced by a million barrels per day to increase the price of oil. Right now, the price of oil is below $55 a barrel. "Opec ministers are meeting in Cairo to discuss the recent steep fall in the price of oil.

Falls in demand in the US, the world's top energy consumer, and other industrialised countries, have helped drive prices down from a record peak of more than $147 a barrel.

Opec, which accounts for 40% of global oil production, cut output by 1.5 million barrels a day last month, but the move failed to stop prices from declining.

While cartel members have not ruled out making another output cut, some say the impact of the existing cuts still have to be felt.

This Time It Really Paid To Be A Good Samaritan!

A 47-year old Peruvian woman found 20,000 dollars in a plastic bag while cleaning a plane at the Barajas airport in Madrid,Spain. She turned the money over to the proper authorities & had forgotten about it since it happened in 2005. The law in Spain regarding lost items is that if no one comes forward to claim it within 2 yrs & 1 day, then, the finder is the keeper. Zimbabwean Playwright Cont Mhlanga Wins International Recognition & An Award For His Protest Plays

Robert Mugabe has been the president of Zimbabwe for 27 years & he has ruled like a dictator instead of the leader of a democractic country.Cont Mhlanga's play "The Good President" is a protest against Mugabe in the form of a play. Because of his willingness to put his life on the line in order to speak out against Mugabe, he was rewarded for his great efforts to vocalize Zimbabwe's suffering under Mugabe's leadership. Here's an excerpt from BBC:

"Mhlanga has won the inaugural $50,000 (£33,000) Artventure Freedom to Create Prize for his politically-charged satirical play The Good President.

The prize was created to honour artists who defend their freedom of expression at great personal sacrifice.

Mhlanga was one of several people and groups honoured at the London ceremony.

He was described by the philanthropic organisation as a "fierce opponent" of the Mugabe regime.

The Good President depicts an African dictator who has ruled Zimbabwe for 27 years since the country gained independence in 1980.

The play is presented as a fictional account, but closely mirrors recent and current events in Zimbabwe.

Al-Qaeda's Challenging George Bush To Send Army To Pakistan!

In an internet video, Al-Qaeda's Zawahri says that the U.S. is in so much financial despair because of the wars we've waged in the Middle East. Here's an excerpt from Reuters:
"The ones shouldering the burden are taxpayers, whose money was spent to rescue senior capitalists and to protect the fraudulent interest-based system from collapse," Zawahri said.

Asked by an off-camera interviewer whether Washington would be able to resolve the crisis, Zawahri said: "They might be able to lighten their losses if they were to stop the insane hemorrhaging of funds which they are spending on wars against Muslims."
Zawahri said U.S. military action against militant tribal forces in Pakistan, who are allied with al Qaeda, would fail despite more troops being sent by President George W. Bush to neighboring Afghanistan.

What I Think About The Kids Dressing Up Like Puritans & Indians For Thanksgiving!

We have done away with kids dressing up for Halloween in most schools. So, to avert accusations of stereotyping people,I think kids should not make these "costumes" because of the true story behind Thanksgiving. We should concentrate on making it a day of appreciation for all that we have here in America thanks,in part, to the American Indians. I know that some of the descendants of the Puritans want to remain insensitive to the fact that their forebears committed great acts of genocide against the American Indians. That part of the Thanksgiving tale is often omitted which makes the American Indians upset. They are Native Americans,meaning this was once their land. It's hard for them to see those who took it from them in such a brutal fashion be glorified on Christopher Colombus Day & Thanksgiving. We must find a way to present history in the truest light possible. Until we do,African-Americans will continue to be incensed by the pride some have in the history of the Confederacy & the Confederate flag and so forth & so on.You can't distort the past & not acknowledge the pain & anguish that so many different racial groups have suffered in America.

Anderson Cooper Is Less Impassioned Than Keith Olbermann About Prop. 8 Even Though He Is Gay!

Death Toll At 101 & Rising After Horrifying Terror Attacks In Mumbai,India!!!!

There has been a terrorist attack in Mumbai that has killed over a 100 people & the death toll may rise from there.This attack came without warning & no one is sure of the motive. Here is more from BBC:

Our correspondent says it could be a hoax or assumed name for another group.

The motive is far from clear - but the attacks come amid elections in several Indian states, including in disputed Kashmir.

On Thursday, reports said five gunmen had taken hostages in an office block in the financial district of Mumbai.


There has been a wave of bombings in Indian cities in recent months which has left scores of people dead.

Most of the attacks have been blamed on Muslim militants, although police have also arrested suspected Hindu extremists.

When Are We Going To Stop The "War On Drugs" That Has Failed Miserably!

Everyone knows that the "war on drugs" is really just a war on poverty. I have not seen how it has improved the conditions of the folks stuck in the ghetto. All I have seen is the murder rate increase & countless black men get locked up. Look at how much time John Forte got for his first offense. That is due to this ridiculous war on drugs. Too often,it has really just been an assault on the black community.Many are wondering if this is one of the wars that Barack Obama will put to an end. I mean, this has been the longest running one. Since I have lived in the ghetto, I can honestly say that it feels like we are living under martial law. So far, here's what StoptheDrugWar.org has to say about some of Obama's picks for his administration:

"In addition, US Attorney Eric H. Holder Jr. said in an interview that he is considering not only prosecuting more marijuana cases but also asking the DC Council to enact stiffer penalties for the sale and use of marijuana. "We have too long taken the view that what we would term to be minor crimes are not important," Holder said, referring to current attitudes toward marijuana use and other offenses such as panhandling.

Holder said he hopes to discourage some of that activity by being tougher on marijuana crimes. New guidelines should be in place by the end of the month, he said, noting that the District could learn from New York's "zero-tolerance" policy. There, crime plummeted when police aggressively enforced quality-of-life crimes, including panhandling and public drinking, which gave officers an opportunity to check for drugs, guns and outstanding warrants.

That same year, he told the Washington Times he was considering proposing a mandatory-minimum 18-month sentence for any marijuana sales. That, at least, didn't happen.

Drug reformers took some small solace, however, from Holder's comments on mandatory minimum sentencing in a 1999 interview. Responding to a question about whether it was time to review mandatory minimums, Holder said:

I Can't Believe That George Bush Actually Pardoned John Forte

I find the news that John Forte has been pardoned to be quite shocking! I mean, that's the last person that I thought Bush would have mercy on. It's funny,but have you noticed just how much George Bush has mellowed out. He does not seem angry anymore. I think he has resigned himself to the fact that he is the most unpopular president in the history of the United States! George Bush seems like he's just counting the days until it's all over. A whole lot of people are afraid that he may do more damage than he has already done. So, when he pardoned John Forte that irked a lot of conservatives. Lou Dobbs just said that George Bush pardoned a "drug dealer"! It's not as if he hasn't served enough time for his first drug offense already. "John Forte's life was forever changed in July of 2000. He agreed to transport a package, and in turn was arrested on a drug trafficking charge. He did not accept the plea bargain offered him, as he maintained that he was innocent of the charges against him.

In 2001, John Forté stood trial in a Texas court and was convicted of this non-violent crime. It was his first offense. Due to the outdated mandatory minimum sentencing laws currently in place, he received the only prison term available for the judge to hand down - 14 years in a federal penitentiary. John is not eligible to be released until he is at least 38 years old.


Many judges (both liberal and conservative) agree that Mandatory Minimum last leave them unable to use their own discretion in evaluating individual cases. Even Justice Anthony Kennedy of the Supreme Court calls them "harsh and unjust."

Racism Is Still Going Strong In South Africa! 19-Year Old Gets Life After Killing 4 Blacks!

This is an update to the story that I posted about the South African teenager who went on a racist killing spree where one of the victims was as young as three months! Well, this guy showed no emotion as he was given his four life terms by the judge who find racism intolerable. Because racism is alive & well the judge on this case has received numerous death threats. Here's an excerpt from BBC:

Beenie Man Detained In Antigua Because Of A Work Permit! But Some Suspect That It Was For Political Reasons!

A whole lot of Jamaican artists speak out on the oppressive political system of their country. Apparently, Antigua doesn't appreciate Beenie Man's opinions about the prime minister of Antigua. They claim he was detained for questioning about a work permit, but according to Antigua Sun:

"Allegedly, at a Labour Day rally, Beenie Man called PM Spencer by a particular name and this landed the self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall in hot water with the UPP administration. It is not clear how this implicates future performances of the artiste in Antigua.


At last Saturday night’s event, Davis did make it clear that he would never disrespect the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda because the country had become like a second home to him.


Browne also spoke out against the actions of the authorities in trying to prevent Davis from performing. “When they tried to stop Beenie Man from performing, we got to stand up and say Beenie Man is going to perform tonight,” Browne told supporters.


“I want to say to the Baldwin Spencer administration, we are not afraid of you.


"Comrades, I want to caution you, it is Beenie Man tonight but it is you tomorrow and if you don’t stand up for justice in this country, we are going to have a fundamental problem.”

The Fugees were a very successful group. After the group disbanded,Lauryn Hill became a musical sensation & Wyclef Jean had some hits. I just assumed that he had accumulated plenty of money from all of his accomplishments. But, I guess he doesn't have enough to salvage this real estate project that he was involved in. This is nothing new to me,but I thought I'd share this piece of health info. Food chemicals may "harm humans" according to WWF-UK,. We're talking about the staples of most people's diets. Stuff like brown bread, butter,& milk which are foods that people consume on a daily basis. Here's an excerpt from BBC:

Husband Leaves Phone At McDonalds & What Happens Next Prompted A $3 Million Lawsuit!

Don't store anything personal on your cell phone like nude photos. You might wind up on the internet like Tina Sherman did. And, no, she did nothing untoward or too kinky by letting her husband snap a shot of her naked body. It's just too bad that he left the cell phone at a McDonald's in Arkansas. Tina Sherman says she began receiving offensive calls and text messages about the pictures from her husband's mobile phone after he left it at the McDonald's on 5 July.

Rats Are A Huge Issue For A Sacramento Woman & Her Neighbors!

This video talks about how bad a rat problem got at a Sacramento theater.One customer of the theater that they interviewed said the rat was on her boyfriend's arm. That is so fucking nasty!But, that's not the only area with rat issues.
There is a neighborhood that is infested with rats in Sacramento,CA. One lady is so exasperated by the situation that she is using a pellet gun to kill them. Yuck! Rats are like demons to me. People knew of Abraham Brigg's intentions because he blogged about committing suicide.Folks did nothing to intervene at all. In fact, they egged him on & watched him die online. I Hope The Obama Administration Will Be Diverse!

The Democratic National Convention had a multitude of races there. It was America in a nutshell & it made me proud to be a Democrat. I hope that the when the Obama administration is finally assembled, it will resemble that convention.There should be whites,blacks,american indians,all asians & latinos,etc... My vision may be a bit too grandiose. But, it would be fitting for a black president to have a multicultural administration. "The Louisiana Lady" Was A Creole Chanteuse

Camille Lucie Nickerson was known as "The Louisiana Lady". She started touring in the United States & France in the 1930's singing Creole folksongs that were indigenous to Louisiana. She was a Creole woman of many achievements who lived from (1888-1982). Camille Nickerson kept the Creole tradition alive by collecting & composing these songs. "Although very successful on the concert circuit, she gave up performing to become part of Howard University's music faculty. She remained there from 1926-1962, retiring with the title professor emerita. Afghan Children Young As 4 Are Working 8-12 Hours A Day!

Young children are suffering physical injuries & inhumane treatment in Afghanistan. The parents are in debt so kids as young as 4 are being forced to work the arrears off. I really cannot believe that these types of stories barely receive mention on the news. We should be hearing about this every single day. While our economy is sinking here in America, many people are feeling despondent & don't know how they can take care of their family. These parents in Afghanistan really are feeling that there children's futures are bleak. I mean,they are working instead of receiving the education that they need. Here's what one of the Afghan parents have to say:

"His father, Khawaja Mohammed, is distressed that he has to send his son to work at all.

"Our house was destroyed. We lost our land and our property. Accommodation here costs between 5,000 to 10,000 Afghanis ($105 - $210). One sack of flour is 3,000 Afghanis ($63).

"We have no other option but to ask the children to work. You saw my child yourself. He is not strong enough to work. You can see his condition. But we don't have any other option."

Tens of billions of dollars in aid have flowed into Afghanistan since the fall of the Taleban in 2001.

Howard University Was Founded Nov 20,1866!

The historically black college was established on this date in 1866! It was named after the man in the photograph, General Oliver O. Howard. He was a civil war hero who also founded the university. Initially, it was intended to be a seminary for African-American clergymen. Here's more from Wikipedia:

The school is nonsectarian and is open to both sexes without regard to race. Then, they go on to say that Colin Powell,Condoleezza Rice,& Barack Obama have verified Malcolm X's assertion that there are still "house negroes" in America. Now, keep in mind that the speaker is, Ayman al-Zawahiri,an Egyptian. He's a "sand negro." So, he has just insulted himself as well. If you are not a black Muslim,I guess you must not be one of those "honorable black-americans" that he was talking about. I'm so sorry to tell you,but I would find that to be insulting if I were a black Muslim. Both Christianity & Islam has a history that is mired in slavery. So,I take great offense at this ignorant negro's ramblings. I Think There's A Simple Solution To California's Overpopulated Prisons!

The horrific conditions that California prison inmates have to endure are being addressed in a trial. Arnold Schwarzenegger has acknowledged before that the overcrowded prisons are a hazard.He shipped inmates to other states to try to reduce the prison population. Here's an excerpt from SF Gate:

"The state has about 172,000 inmates, including 156,000 in its 33 prisons, which were designed for just over half that number. Schwarzenegger and the Legislature agreed in April 2007 on a $7.3 billion bond measure that would add 53,000 prison and county jail beds. The governor has also transferred several thousand inmates to prisons in other states.

In the current lawsuits, however, inmates suffering from physical and mental illnesses argue that expansion won't bring the prison health system up to constitutional standards. My opinion is that they need to figure out how to get the real drug offenders.If we were really doing that,the drugs would never get smuggled in to the country in the first place.Why are there so many drug users in prison & petty dope dealers? I think it's because this is a booming business for America. There is no real interest in securing our borders & stopping the flow of illegal goods.The war on drugs has been ongoing for over 30 years now & it has only gotten worse. Are we really that inept at tackling the drug issue in America or is something more sinister at work?

It Ain't Pirates In The Carribean! The Modern Day Pirates Are In Somalia!

We've all heard of pirates. They have been quite a nuisance since the ocean started being used as a trade route. The problem really no longer exists in the Carribean Sea. You have to watch "Pirates of the Carribean" to catch a glimpse of that classic era of piracy. But, modern day piracy can be found off the coast of Somalia.The pirates sure aren't seeking buried treasure either. According to CNN:

"More than 60 ships have been attacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden this year, compared with about half that many in all of 2007, according to a report released this month by Chatham House, an institute in London, England, that analyzes international affairs.

Jonestown Memorial Is Erected At Oakland Evergreen Cemetery

It's hard for me to watch documentaries about Jonestown.I think that Jim Jones represents pure evil.The people who suffered really were seeking peace on earth. Jim Jones had the words that so many black people wanted to hear at that time. He spoke of racial accord & unity. That's what they believed Jonestown was. Unfortunately, they met their fate at the hands of a madman who had kept many of them against their will once they got there. Do not think of them as cult members because they were not. No longer will they be thought of collectively as the victims of Jonestown.Most of their names have been placed on a memorial. Here's an excerpt from cbs5.com:

Eric Holder will become America's first black Attorney General. He has a pretty good reputation as the deputy attorney general to President Bill Clinton. White South African Teen Pleads Guilty To Killing 4 Black People!

South Africa has had a long & brutal history of racial strife & terror. Now that apartheid is over, they have been going through a healing period. So when this white South African teen committed these horrific crimes, it created racial friction according to CNN:

"A white teenager has pleaded guilty in a shooting spree that killed four blacks and reignited racial tensions in post-apartheid South Africa.

Witnesses say Nel began firing on children in a poor black settlement on January 14.

PBS Will Present A Episode Of "Nova" That Questions The Validity Of The Bible

I can testify right here on this blog that the Bible is indeed a spiritual book. Whether or not it was written by God is irrelevant. It was obviously inspired by God & should be revered as a holy book. You shouldn't take it literally because it is a book of messages & revelations that has been dictated by God to various writers throughout the centuries. That is what I truly believe. Now, how can I offer you any testimony that can prove that the Bible is the Word of God?

Well,let me relate a little true story to you. I dated a guy who was studying to become a Muslim & he believed wholeheartedly in the Holy Koran. Now, he was not adhering to the strict practices of the Muslim faith at all. He smoked so much weed that he probably would have faired better if he was contemplating the Rastafari religion. But anyway, he sold drugs as well. This dude was full of contradictions & his attempt at seeking true spirituality was half-hearted at best. The day I decided to get rid of him,we got into an argument about a lot of things. During our heated discussion, he started talking about being a Muslim.

He lived with his mother who was a Christian. On her coffee table, she had various reading materials which included The Holy Bible & The Holy Koran. I am also Christian in my beliefs. For some crazy reason, he decided to pick up the Bible & then he flung it across the room. This guy was freakin' nuts! Then, he says that the Bible "ain't shit" & proceeded to denounce the Bible & compare it to the Koran. Nothing happened immediately. But, the next day I found out that this guy was in the hospital fighting for his life!

Remember that I mentioned that he was a drug dealer? Well, he was a dealer with no turf to deal drugs on. He knew guys that had a spot where it was cool for them to sell drugs at. Apparently, the dude that I dated was given permission to sell his stuff at a spot by someone he knew. Whoever told him that wasn't running shit, though! After we had got into our little dispute, he went to sell drugs. Once he got to the dope spot, he got robbed & was beaten to a pulp. He wound up going into a coma where he had a 50/50 chance of surviving this brutal attack. And to make a long story short, I prayed at his bedside daily.I recited the Psalms from the Holy Bible to him.After two weeks, he emerged from his coma. Do you know what he told me? That he had heard nothing but my prayers during that whole time. He never really recovered from the attack
but he stopped selling drugs. The last I heard, this guy was singing gospel songs & had become a Christian. Now, that's the power of Scripture.

I can't say what made him decide to become a Christian. What has always puzzled me & kept me in awe of the Bible is how events transpired after he cursed the Bible & threw it! Not even 24 hours later, this guy seemed to have received the wrath of the God from his insulting actions. I don't know every writer that took part in the composition of the Holy Bible. What I am certain of is that God inspired the words that they wrote. I would never desecrate any book that has been deemed holy. You wouldn't catch me picking up the Holy Koran & cursing it. These are books that God inspired people to write. It's not something to be scoffed at or taken lightly.

So, calling the Bible a "Book Of Jewish Fairy Tales" is outlandish. But, it's how Bill Maher & others feel about it. They say it has no relevance in modern society. Well, I beg to differ. Here's an excerpt from an article about this very subject:

Michael Jackson's Got More Issues Than We Knew About!

I really wish that a time machine had been invented by now. Then, we could put Michael Jackson's ass in it & zoom him back to 1980. You know, before he mangled his face with plastic surgery. Don't you wish that he would have kept away from these plastic surgeons who assisted him in his quest to self-destruct? I mean, he was so cute & innocent back then. Now, he's a twisted man-child who seems to have sick sexual perversions towards boys under the age of 13! What the fuck happened to this black pop icon who is worshipped all over the world? He just continues his descent into pauperism & despair. He's being sued by an Arabian prince for reneging on a recording deal that would have paid back loans that were given to Michael Jackson. I Didn't Know Wanda Sykes Had A Wife

I like Wanda Sykes. She is funny,smart,& apparently gay. This was an aspect of her life that I really did not pay much attention to. I figured that she was gay but I didn't know whether she had come out or not. With the passage of Proposition 8, Wanda Sykes made her position known on the matter by revealing that she had actually gotten married to her wife on October 25. She is pissed in this video & being real about how she feels. I wonder who's next in Hollywood. You know it's such a closeted society so it took a lot of courage for her to make this statement. Especially as a black woman because many of us tend to shun those who are gay. Wow,girl! You've got guts! And I love you for it.

I Hope They Catch Whoever Was Involved In The California Wildfires!

At least one of these vicious fires that have been burning continously in California was caused by a person. If this is a case of arson, we need to find that out. Hopefully, whoever had anything to do with these horrific fires will come forward & take responsibility for what happened. Let's hope that this was not done on purpose because this has caused massive destruction. Losing everything you have in a fire is traumatic & life-altering. Believe me, I know because I lost everything in a fire in 2005. My prayers are with all those who must rebuild their lives. The good news is that you survived.Knowing that fact is what kept me going. Fox New Should Be Admonished For Consistently Blaming Black Voters For Proposition 8!

If you've ever gone to college & done any research, you know that statistics are to be taken with a grain of salt. I watched Fox for about an hour because they had an announcer saying "Blacks vote against Propositon 8! Is this the start of the culture wars?" First of all, Fox News could care less about gay rights. I mean, they bash San Francisco every chance they get!This is a obvious ploy to continue the culture war they've been engaged in since I've been watching them. I hope people realize that all racial groups helped Proposition 8 pass. And excuse me, but aren't there black gays? Did they vote against themselves? Stop using phony unreliable statistics to create division in America.

Another thing that I wish people would really stop doing is comparing the civil rights movement to the fight for gay rights. Being black is the same as being white,yellow,brown,etc... So,use all of these other examples to assert that people should have the same rights whether you are gay or straight. Being gay & black are two separate issues. You can be a gay white person & hate blacks! I have seen & dealt with a lot of racist homosexuals who would never dream of sleeping with a black person. They never felt that they were the same as blacks. Why is it that blacks should identify with being gay if they are not? Women have been denied equal rights as well. How many women voted to yes on Proposition 8? I just don't understand why this is being made into an issue by Fox.I support the right for a person,gay or straight,to be happy.Hopefully,California will find a way to make everyone happy. Elton John suggested that using the word "marriage" may be why Prop. 8 passed. He believes that it could be a easily won battle if it was called a "civil partnership" instead.

I Hope This Lawsuit Really Brings The KKK Down!

Warning! There is some profanity & racially offensive language in this video. It shows a KKK member spewing ignorance & hatred. If you think that everything's good for blacks now because Barack Obama got elected, look at this video. Racism did not magically evaporate when Americans checked the box for Obama. I think that this country is moving towards ending racism. But, you have hate-filled people who find this new reality to be unfathomable. They feel that it is their duty as white men to preserve "white power."

I expressed disbelief that slavery was still around in my last posting. It is equally unbelievable that the KKK is still a major organization that is constantly recruiting people. I'm sure you've heard on the news about the Oklahoma woman who went to Louisiana to be initiated into the KKK. Why is the KKK still an issue in America? If you want to stop racism, you can't allow these groups to indoctrinate little children with hatred. We know that racism is passed down from generation to generation. When I was a little girl, I played with all types of races. Little kids are not hung up on the color of one's skin. They just want to have fun. It's the parents who discourage these friendships & put these discriminatory views in their children's heads. How can you fight that? How Is It That Slavery Still Exists In The 21st Century?

We live in a very modern advanced society. Women are powerful entities who are in control of their own destinies. The days of subservience & obedience seem to be of a bygone era. Unfortunately for some, it is not. There are some females who are being sold into slavery as we speak. Here is an excerpt from Economist:

"BORN into slavery in Niger, Hadijatou Mani was just 12 years old when she was sold for the equivalent of $400 to a wealthy Muslim businessman with four wives. At 13, she was raped for the first time by her new master, going on to bear him three children, two of whom survived. Both were taken from her. For almost nine years, she had to work long hours in the fields and in his home without pay. If she did anything wrong or tried to escape, she was beaten. Black Civil War Veterans Finally Get Some Respect Paid To Them!

On Veterans Day, I always tend to think of the soldiers who fought in recent wars. But what about those who were never acknowledged for the risking their lives in wars long past?
